Be swept up in the history, style, and romance of a former palace in the heart of Toledo. Allow yourself the ultimate royal treatment in chic rooms with large, black marble bathrooms and Gilchrist & Soames products.
This former palace of empress Eugenia de Montijo of France (wife of Napoleon III) stands in Toledo's ancient quarter. Given as a wedding present to the Spanish doña in 1853, later the home of several noble families, this fascinating spot has been lovingly restored as a hotel and a tribute to Empress Eugenia.
The refreshingly contemporary interiors of the Eugenia De Montijo are designed to feel like a journey through her life. The breakfast room, with clean lines and bright decor, is inspired by her exquisitely-mirrored dressing room. Restaurant Federico is named for her favorite designer. There’s even a marzipan corner, for guests to enjoy her favorite treat.
The subterranean Eugenia’s Bath spa features an ancient wall built by Visigoths, and the remains of an aqueduct dating back to Roman times. It also features a pretty wonderful orchid body wrap treatment!
A UNESCO World Heritage site in itself, Toledo bursts with old world charm. Known as the Imperial City, as the former court of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, and as the City of Three Cultures, thanks to its Christian, Jewish, and Muslim influences, historic intrigue abounds here. The city isn’t just for history buffs, however—anyone with an interest in art, architecture, and rich culture will adore Toledo. Foodies will revel in the gastronomic scene featuring expertly executed classic Spanish dishes and delicious Mediterranean fare. Only 70km from Spain’s capital, old Castilian charm is still easily found here.
